Springboro, Ohio
The first settlers arrived in the Springboro area in 1798, and the town was platted in 1815 by Jonathon Wright, a Quaker. Many of the houses on South Main Street are original to the Quaker Village.
From 1820 through 1865, the small town was a major stop on the Underground Railroad. Twenty-seven safe houses, or depots, have been identified and confirmed in Springboro and its surrounding township.
Today, you can explore the unique village and its rich history. Self-guided Historic District walking tours tell the secrets of original Quaker houses where secret rooms and tunnels hid slaves from bounty hunters. Guided group tours are also available. Many of the buildings now house charming shops offering antiques, collectibles and delightful gifts.
